Virtues of Fasting

Ramadan is the ninth month of the Muslim calendar. It is during this month that Muslims observe the Fast of Ramadan. A time to strengthen family and community ties.

"O ye who believe! Fasting is prescribed to you as it was prescribed to those before you, that ye may (learn) self-restraint" (Surat-ul-Baqarah 2:183)

Offering Sacrifice (Udhiyah)

From: Fiqh-us-Sunnah, by As-Sayed Sabiq

Udhiyah or Dahiyah is a name for camels, cows, or sheep that are slaughtered by Muslims on the Day of Nahr and the Days of Tashreeq, to draw near to Allah. The Day of Nahr (slaughtering) is the Day of Eid-ul-Adha and the Days of Tashreeq are the three days that follow it.

Allah ordained the offering of Udhiyah, as He says in the Qur`an (meaning): "To thee have We granted the Fount (of Abundance). Therefore to thy Lord turn in Prayer and Sacrifice. For he who hateth thee; He will be cut off (from Future Hope)." (Surat Al-Kawthar 108:1-3), where sacrifice refers to Udhiyah.

The Hajj of the Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him): A Detailed Account

From: Fiqh-us-Sunnah, by As-Sayed Sabiq

Muslim reported: "Abu Bakr ibn Abi Shaibah and Ishaq bin Ibrahim told us that Hatem bin Isma'il al-Madani reported of Ja'far ibn Mohammad, who reported of his father, saying, 'We visited Jabir ibn Abdullah (he was blind) and he began inquiring about the people (who had come to see him) till it was my turn. I said: "I am Mohammad ibn Ali ibn Hussein."He placed his hand on my head and opened my upper button and then the lower one, and then placed his hand on my chest (in order to bless me). I was during those days a young boy, and then he said: "You are welcome, my nephew. Ask whatever you want to ask." I asked him a question but it was time for prayer. He stood up covering himself in his mantle. Whenever he placed its ends upon his shoulders they slipped down because it was short (in size). Another mantle was, however, lying on the clothes rack nearby (and he put it on) and led the prayer. I said to him: "Tell me about the Hajj of the Prophet (peace be upon him)." He held up his nine fingers and said: "The Prophet (peace be upon him) stayed in Madinah for nine years but did not perform Hajj. Then, in the tenth year he made a public announcement to the effect that Allah's Messenger was about to perform the Hajj. A large number of people came to Madinah, and all of them were eager to emulate the Prophet (peace be upon him) and follow his actions."
